Heal Your Dry Skin Overnight Naturally

Saturday 10 March 2007 @ 6:46 am

Dry skin happens more often in the winter where the cold air outside and the hot air inside creates a low relative humidity. Xeroderma literally means “dry skin”. Xeroderma is a very common condition.

Skin is considered one of the most important parts of the body. Skin also receives less blood flow and lower gland activity. The skin is often known as “the largest organ of the human body”.

The dermis is the layer of skin beneath the epidermis that consists of connective tissue and cushions the body from stress and strain. The dermis is tightly connected to the epidermis by a basement membrane. The blood vessels in the dermis provide nourishment and waste removal to its own cells as well as the epidermis.

Certain drugs, including diuretics, antispasmodics, and antihistamines, can contribute to dry skin. Serious skin complications, including dry skin, can arise for people with diabetes. Nutritional deficiencies, especially deficiencies of vitamin A and the B vitamins, can also contribute to dry skin. Xeroderma can also be caused by a deficiency of vitamin A, systemic illness, overexposure to sunlight or some medications.

Thick, oily-type moisturizers work best. Drink plenty of water every day. Use bath oils and moisturizers daily.

Put 2 tablespoons of coconut oil in your smoothies. Concentrating on a diet of LOTS of fruits and vegetables (preferably uncooked) and no junk food, should give you an observable improvement within 30 days. Eat at least one organic apple with the skin on every day. Eat foods that contain essential fatty acids. Good skin is often a reflection of a good digestive system.

The best treatment I’ve found for dry skin is coconut oil. Use coconut oil to remove your make-up at night, like I do; it leaves a fine layer of oil to nourish your skin all night long. It just takes motivation, a willingness to try it, and diligent application of coconut oil several times daily and at bedtime to see its benefits. Use bath oils and moisturizers, especially coconut oil, at least daily.

The skin must be regularly cleaned or it’ll become cracked or inflamed. Unclean skin favors the development of pathogenic organisms - the dead cells that continually slough off of the epidermis mix with the secretions of the sweat and sebaceous glands and the dust found on the skin to form a filthy layer on its surface. The skin is subject to constant attack from without, so can be affected by numerous conditions, diseases and ailments.

Go to your skin doctor if dryness and itching are preventing you from sleeping. Continue using coconut oil and the benefits of good, clear skin, free of dryness and other skin conditions should be your reward. You should see the results with improved skin overnight following this advice.

5 Tips For Using Sedu Hair Straighteners

Saturday 10 March 2007 @ 1:27 am

There is a constant stream of new beauty products of every description launched onto the market every day of every year. Each claiming to transform your appearance in some way, be it whiter teeth, less wrinkles or some miracle cure for cellulite. Whether these claims are true or untrue we all find ourselves tempted to give them a try.

A product which came into the limelight in 2006 is the Sedu hair straightener claiming to be able to tame unmanageable, extra curly or frizzy hair into a sleek, shiny mane to be proud of.

Unlike other ceramic straighteners the sedu straightening iron is made using a combination of conventional ceramics with the precious stone tourmaline which creates an ultra smooth surface thus preventing the hair becoming broken because of it being pulled and tugged during the straightening process.

The use of technology in the form of negative ions greatly reduces the time which the straightening process takes and the infra red heat seals in moisture and shine. Like all new equipment however it does take a bit of practice to perfect the art of straight hair using the sedu straightening iron. With perseverance you too could have salon beautiful hair every day!!

Here are some useful tips to get you started:-

1. The condition of your hair has a great impact on whatever style or look you are trying to achieve. The use of a good conditioner will ensure that your hair is kept in the best possible condition. A small point to remember the most expensive is not always the best so shop around and find which product works best for you.

2. Most models have the added feature of a temperature control, this may take a little time to get used to but it does mean that you have control! It is best to start at a fairly low setting and gradually increase the temperature as required to suit your particular hair type. Too hot will result in your hair becoming dry and frizzy and too low will leave you disappointed and frustrated.

3. To avoid making your hair more frizzy and unmanageable than normal blow dry your hair in the proper manner before you begin to use your Sedu hair straightener. Use a large round brush and point the nozzle of your hairdryer downwards, parallel to your hair.

4. The most important of all is READ the MANUFACTURER’S INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!

5. All you have to do now is choose a style which is right for you and create!!!

As hair straighteners go Sedu are far from the cheap option but it would seem that they do produce results time after time, if you follow these simple tips. There are Sedu hair styles out there for everyone - the world is your oyster.

What Are The Features Of Sedu Hair Straighteners?

Saturday 10 March 2007 @ 1:10 am

Sedu straighteneing irons are one of the best products on the market that can help you get frizz-free, smooth and silky hair. The smooth plates that Sedu irons have ensure that the straightening occurs without any pulling or discomfort. The ceramic plates generate a high concentration of negative ions and the plates heat up within seconds to your desired temperature. Both these aspects help you to reduce the time and effort that goes into hair straightening.

Sedu straighteners use tourmaline, a precious stone that helps in the release of a large number of negative ions. These negative ions ensure that there is no damage to hair and that the hair becomes smoother, shinier and silkier. And it is purported that the time taken to straighten hair with a Sedu straightener is half of the time taken by regular irons.

While most other irons deplete the hair of moisture and leave it dull after the straightening process, Sedu hair straighteners use a new technology that ensures that the moisture stays in the hair, making the hair shiny and smooth.

The iron is made from ultra lightweight metal that has high tensile strength. It is molded in an ergonomically designed fashion so that handling and holding the Sedu straightener becomes extremely easy. It has a long cord attached to a pivot that keeps it from tangling.

The Sedu straightener comes in various models and can be adjusted to temperatures ranging from 250oF to 410oF so that it can be used for fragile, thin, normal, wavy or highly frizzy hair. The setting of the Sedu iron can be adjusted to low for the fragile, thin or damaged hair. The medium setting can be used for normal hair and the Sedu straightener can be set at high temperature for those who want to tame coarse, thick, long or frizzy hair.

The Sedu straightening iron can be used not only to straighten hair but also to curl your it in or out. You can control your hair better to achieve a flat look, a soft curl look or a turn in or turn out. It has been the preferred choice of many salons and can now be purchased by the public to get the same salon look at home.

All in all, Sedu straightening irons can be used on all hair types, to make hair more silky, smooth and straight while ensuring that there is no damage due to heat.

Buying an Engagement Ring She Will Love

Friday 9 March 2007 @ 10:52 am

Well, you have gone through the process of making a decision. You have chosen who to spend your life with, and you want to propose. Now, you need a ring to give to her when you pop the question. You need to find the perfect ring, but how? This article will let you find the ring which will make her say Yes! just by taking one look at it.

Since the ring symbolizes love, and care, it would always help to keep in mind what she likes, and what she doesnt. Since shell be wearing this ring day after day, giving her something she would like would definitely make her smile when she looks at it!

If you have not even hinted once that you want to propose to that certain someone, then you definitely cannot ask her outright what kind of rings she likes. Start by taking notice of the rings she wears on her hands (if she wears any). If there are any of her girlfriends or relatives (mother or sister) who can let you know her preferences, and keep a secret at the same time, then ask them. Does she like gold or platinum? Heavy rings or delicate ones?

If your love knows that youre going to pop the question at her, and it is understood that you are going to marry her, and her alone one day, then why not ask her outright? Look at the different rings together, from magazines, or the internet, and decide together on the perfect ring. Even if you choose the ring together, and it loses the element of surprise, you can still make the proposal itself very special.

Many families have heirlooms which simply have to be passed on to the next bride to be. That definitely does not mean it is a trap. You can simply present the ring to her, and have her wear it temporarily, and then choose something out together later.

Now that you have decided what type of ring to buy, remember the four Cs when you go into the jewelry shop, to match the ring in your mind with an actual one.
The four Cs stand for Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat. These are the four attributes which determine the quality of the diamond.

The cut will affect the brilliance and shine of the diamond, the more the rating of the cut, the higher the light reflected from the diamond, and the more expensive it becomes.
Color tells how much color the diamond has, the less the color, the better the diamond.
Clarity will determine how many flaws the diamond has.
Carat tells the size of the stone, and the will determine the price. The more the weight of the diamond, the more the price.

Choose the metal for the diamond. This means the choice has to be made between silver gold, and platinum. Platinum is the most expensive out of the three metals, however it is also the most durable and strong. If you cannot afford platinum, then go for white gold, which gives the same color as platinum, but is essentially gold. If your love likes traditional yellow, then go for gold.

The final step is to choose the setting, i.e. one stone or many stones. If you want something with side stones, then should the side stones also be diamonds?

Remember, the ultimate goal is to find the ring she will love!

Healthy Skin - Naturally

Friday 9 March 2007 @ 4:06 am

Your busy modern lifestyle leaves you little time for pampering your skin. The result: Your skin isn’t the same baby-soft body glove you were born with. As age catches up, your skin gradually becomes thinner and finely wrinkled. Oil-producing (sebaceous) glands become less active, leaving your skin dryer. The number of blood vessels in your skin reduces, your skin becomes fragile, and you lose your youthful sheen and color.

Good skin care will definitely help delay the natural aging process and prevent many skin problems. We list below some vital aspects of skin care, the important factors, what is good and what is not good for your skin. These simple skin-care tips are sure to help you protect your skin to keep it healthy and glowing for years to come.

1. Protect yourself from the sun

The best way to take care of your skin is by protecting it from the sun. Ultraviolet light the invisible but intense rays of the sun can damage your skin and cause deep wrinkles, dry, rough skin, liver spots, and more serious disorders, such as noncancerous and cancerous (malignant) skin tumors.

2. Don’t smoke

Smoking accelerates the normal aging process of the skin, contributing to wrinkles. Skin changes as a result of smoking can be seen in young adults who have been smoking for as few as ten years. This is because smoking causes narrowing of the blood vessels in the outermost layers of your skin. This reduces blood flow, depleting the skin of oxygen and nutrients, such as vitamin A, which are important to skin health. Further, the repetitive facial expressions made when smoking such as pursing the lips when inhaling and squinting the eyes to out keep smoke also contribute to wrinkles.

3. Wash your skin gently

Cleansing is an essential part of caring for your skin; the key is to treat your skin gently. As far as possible, use warm water and limit bath time. Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time to around fifteen minutes or less and, here too, use warm, rather than hot, water. Also, avoid strong soaps those most capable of stripping oil from your skin. They leave your skin dry. Choose mild soaps, rather, with oils and fats added to them during the soap manufacturing process. When removing eye makeup, do so carefully, using a soft sponge, cotton cloth or cotton balls to avoid damaging the delicate tissue around your eyes. If you wear heavy, waterproof makeup, you might have to use oil-based products such as petroleum jelly.

4. Moisturize regularly

Moisturizers definitely help maintain your skin’s natural moisture levels by providing a seal over your skin to keep water from escaping or by slowly releasing water into your skin. The most suitable moisturizer and the frequency with which you need to moisturize depends on many factors, including your skin type, your age and whether you have specific conditions such as acne. One good way to find out if you need a moisturizer is to wait for twenty minutes after bathing if your skin feels tight, you should apply a moisturizer.

5. Shave carefully

Shaving is a common and cheap way of removing unwanted hair. Then again, shaving can cause skin irritations, especially if your skin is thin, dry or very sensitive. For a smooth shave, press a warm wash cloth on your skin before shaving to soften the hair, or shave after a warm bath or shower. Never shave dry skin; it can cause razor burns. And always apply shaving cream, lotion or gel before shaving to protect and lubricate your skin. Finally, make sure to rinse your skin afterwards with warm water.

Men: Do You Love Your Hair?

Friday 9 March 2007 @ 3:30 am

Let us face it most men can be quite vain. Spending hours in front of the mirror, flexing those pecks, or even striking that killer pose to try and wow the ladies. However, one reason why men spend hours in front of the mirror is often to get their hair absolutely perfect. A wayward hair style throws the whole balance off and you have to start all over again if you cannot get it right.

Why looking after your hair is important, even for men and the styles which you can opt for!

Looking after your hair is an important part of looking good. If your hair is greasy or it has bits of last nights gooey gel left in it, how do you expect to get that style you are after. Greasy hair also attracts dirt and you could end up with skin problems as well as hair problems, then where will you be?

So, the first port of call is to take a good hard look at you, and judging by the amount of time that some men spend looking in the mirrors anyway, it should not be too hard!

Ask yourself if your hair too long, too short, or too messy? Also it is best to know what type of hair you actually have so that when you buy shampoo, you are purchasing the right one for you. Buying the wrong type of shampoo can potentially damage your hair so always take the time to find out which type you should actually be buying.

So how do you find out which shampoo is for you? Well, the best thing to do is to look carefully at your hair and ask yourself certain questions like: Do I have dandruff? Is my hair greasy or oily? Is my hair dry? Does my hair? If you answer any of these questions as yes, then you are now aware of what your hair is like, thus you can make sure that you get the right shampoo for your hair type.

You can purchase a shampoo from all supermarkets and drugstores, as well as a big range available in certain hair salons. There is also an even bigger selection on the internet if you would prefer to shop online.

For men with longer hair, more care is obviously needed than it is for those with shorter hair. The shorter your hair, the easier it can be to manage. There are many styles that can be tried out for both men with long and short hair, and the trends change quite often. If stars and celebrities try out new haircuts that seem a bit outrageous, it can be guaranteed, many men will try these hair cuts out too.

How do you achieve these looks then? There are many products available absolutely everywhere, to help you to style your hair. There are gels, sprays, foams, all of which can achieve anything from simple styles, to radical, spiky, and completely wacky styles, you are certainly are spoilt for choice.

If you always go for the same hair cut, short back and sides or just plain and boring, you may be interested in trying out a new style. It may be that you have wanted to change your hair style for ages, but you are too scared to try anything different in case it does not look right, or suit you.

If you are uncertain as to what style to try, have a word with your nearest barber shop for an evaluation. They will be able to suggest ideas, and be able to help you make the right choice for you. If there is a style that you are brave enough to try, do not be afraid to tell the hairdressers or barbers about it. You can always cut out clippings from magazines or newspapers to take with you in order to show the hairdresser what style you were thinking of.

By taking care of your hair, it will take care of you. It can help with your appearance, and in turn that can do wonders for your confidence. They say you should not judge a book by its cover but unfortunately a lot of people do.

Overall, it is all down to personal preference and as long as you are happy with your hair it should not matter what anybody else thinks.

Precautions While Using Home Remedies

Friday 9 March 2007 @ 2:49 am

Home Remedies are generally convenient and safe for a wide variety of conditions. They combat inflammation and are excellent for reducing fevers, combating coughs and colds, stomachaches, indigestion, constipation, sores and acne. Sometimes, you may even use them for long-term use for chronic conditions, such as arthritis, asthma, diabetes, hypertension, so on and so forth.

Still, just because anyone can easily avail of these remedies doesn’t mean they are always safe for everyone in all situations. Like almost any remedy, used improperly, they can have side effects, however minor. This is why it is important that, before you take them, and preferably even before the need arises, you should ask an expert who has used them before, which is safest and best for you.

It is especially important to ask if you develop a new medical problem. A pregnant woman, who is nursing, for instance, should always talk to her doctor before taking any home remedies; vitamin, mineral, or other supplement; or herb or other alternative therapy.

Although all home remedies are natural, exercise special caution, like when using them near or around the eyes. If your skin is particularly sensitive, do a skin test before trying these remedies. Simply test your skin by placing a small amount of a questionable ingredient on your wrist or forearm. If irritation or redness develops, wash the area and consider another option.

Certain precautions are also needed while looking for herbal remedies for oily skin. One wrong step could result in troubles to your skin. Likewise, Sage herb should be used with caution in certain conditions like pregnancy, breast feeding, post postnatal period, by epilepsy patients. There are lots of concerns over the Thujone content.

So also you should exercise the following precautions while using Bulgarian rose oil:

It should always be kept away from the reach of children
It should never be used by pregnant women
You should always consult a therapist before using it, to avoid any undesirable situation.

Above all, you should exercise all precautions while following instructions on the recipes from all articles found on the Net. Always avoid using them if you are allergic to any ingredient. Remember, the responsibility lies with you as the reader, as do the side-effects, not the site, or the writer.

Please note that home remedies are not alternatives for medicines. In case of severe illnesses, you must seek a physicians advice and not take any chances with your health. We also suggest that you seek medical advice on continuation of symptoms of your existing problems.

Kevin Pederson has contributed many articles on home remedies, http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com, your reference guide on natural remedies to use at home to heal common health problems.

A Career In Fashion Modeling

Thursday 8 March 2007 @ 2:39 pm

While surfing through TV channels, you probably have come across a model in an ad or a fashion channel with a svelte and appealing figure, and a great deal of poise. And, for the umpteenth time you may have wished that you could be one. It’s not just the attention that makes an individual want to be a model, but also the money involved.

Modeling is not confined to traveling to exotic locations, being pampered, attending celebrity parties and earning thousand dollars a day. Although most people like to be in the limelight, rub shoulders with the fashion circuit’s who’s who, and indulge in the best cuisines of the world, modeling is much more than that.

Requirements

If you plan to take up modeling as a career, you need to acquire demanding physical attributes. You need to first rate yourself. Gauge your weaknesses and your strengths. Not everyone is perfect, but you can work on your flaws and improve on your plus points. For example, your height should be at least 5 feet 8 inches or more, and your body weight should be in proportion to it.

Fashion models are notorious for their unusual diets and exercise regimes that they need to undergo to maintain the exacting body proportions required by the profession. The skin should be healthy and without any, or very little, blemishes. Your hair should be in good shape without any kind damage or dehydration in evidence. Even your teeth should be straight and white, and not crooked or flawed in any manner. A million dollar smile would do half your job.

Models lead a fun filled and exciting life. They have lavish lifestyles, and hop from one lovely locale to another. However, aside from all the fun, modeling demands dedication, commitment and genuine interest. The work timings can be erratic, and models are required to balance their work schedules, as well as their personal health. Models especially require ample sleep, good and nutritious food, and exercise to keep fit. Their profession demands that they maintain their health and complexion, and adhere to a good regime of personal grooming.

Modeling

Once you enter the modeling arena, the next step is to get noticed by a modeling agency. Don’t forget that the agency needs you just as much as you need them. They are always on the look out for fresh faces, and if you are at the right place at the right time, you can land yourself a lucrative modeling assignment. Don’t expect assignments to just walk up to you. You need to make an effort to search for them, and give people a push. You will have to send out your portfolios to modeling agencies that recruit models.

It is important to make your portfolio simple yet effective, however you don’t have to spend a lot of money to create an expensive portfolio. Usually, agencies have open castings where newcomers have a chance of being selected. Experience in the related field, whether in print, ramp or television ads, is an added advantage.

Movie and film extras agencies also hire models for their movies. You can also work as a live model at a local departmental store, or even make a public appearance at a local event. This adds up to your experience and helps you to familiarize yourself with the requirements of the profession.

Entering The Fashion Circle

After being hired by one of the agencies, you may have to shift base to another city, or always be on the move. This would also mean living away from your family or traveling a lot. Since initially it may take a while to get a major break in the profession, you need to be patient and determined, until you succeed. Attend all casting calls and shoots. Although established models are known to keep people waiting, but you being a rookie cannot afford such antics. With dedication and perseverance, you are sure to succeed.

Rosacea And The Problems It Can Cause

Thursday 8 March 2007 @ 2:33 pm

Not many people have heard of Rosacea, but it is an inflammatory skin condition which affects the face. It is thought that the condition affects up to 14 million Americans, yet some of them do not even realize what they have. So just exactly what is this condition that hardly anybody has heard of?

Rosacea and its Causes

Rosacea is similar in appearance to acne and so often sufferers get confused and assume they have acne rather than this condition. Depending upon how severe the problem is, the condition has often created many social problems for its sufferers as most are too embarrassed to even go out in public.

The actual cause of Rosacea is unknown and as of yet, there is no known cure for the condition either. The symptoms which often occur include:

Redness of the skin on the face, usually on the forehead, cheeks, nose or chin
Spots which look a lot like acne
Visible blood vessels on the face
Watery and other irritable eye problems

It is also possible to have other symptoms such as a burning or stinging sensation within the face, facial swelling and the skin thickening on the face. The severity of the condition depends upon how much damage will be caused, however, generally the condition is mainly more embarrassing and emotionally scarring rather than physically. If you think that you have any signs of the condition it is always worth getting checked out at the doctors. Usually the condition is identified in a number of stages. These are:

Stage One:
People who have the first kind of Rosacea tend to have flushing and persistent redness symptoms. There also may be a few visible blood vessels in the face too. Apart from that there are no other symptoms.

Stage Two:
If you are suffering from Stage two you will have persistent redness with some pimples and bumps on the face also.

Stage Three:
Stage three includes skin thickening, and usually the nose is often enlarged a little caused by excess tissue.

Stage Four:
If the condition is particularly bad, you will notice symptoms such as dry eye, swollen eyelids, tearing and burning and there is a risk of potential vision loss due to cornea damage.

Obviously stage four is the most serious and you should really try and get this condition diagnosed as early as possible to stop the risk of it getting worse.

How to Treat Rosacea:
It is hard to prevent Rosacea due to the fact that it is not known what actually causes the condition. As each different person will have a different experience with the condition, the treatment will vary and you will have to first visit a physician in order to get the best treatment advice for you.

Once you have the condition, your skin care routine can help to control it. The routine has to be gentle and it is important to clean the face with a non abrasive and mild cleanser, rinsing well with luke warm water. The most important part of the routine is to remember to blot the face dry with a thick cotton towel. You should never dry your face roughly as this could irritate the condition.

Sunscreen is also advised and the lowest protection factor used should be 15. It is possible to cover up the condition using green tinted foundation or ordinary green makeup, as this will help to counter the redness.

Usually to properly treat the condition, topical and oral medications are often given. Oral antibiotics and Topical therapy are often combined to give the best possible chance of recovery. If the condition is particularly severe, laser treatment and surgery may need to be used.

Overall, Rosacea is extremely common yet practically nothing is known about the condition. So if you do suffer from this condition you are definitely not alone, and it is always best to consult your doctor and get it treated as soon as possible.
