Highlights and Lowlights: Your Guide To Hair Color Options

Thursday 31 January 2008 @ 8:00 am

Ready for a little color boost? Whatever your natural shade may be, hair highlights and lowlights can provide contrast and help you to create a striking, unique look. Unlike a full color treatment, a highlight or lowlight can enhance your hairs natural color, while creating definition and contrast, as well as a unique look that is all your own.

If you have never experimented with highlights or lowlights, but are intrigued by the idea of these color treatment options, you have come to the right place. Here is your definitive guide to both of these treatments.

Hair Color Highlighting Defined:

Simply put, hair highlighting is a way to lighten, brighten, and enhance your hair color. While there are home highlighting treatments available, your best option for stunning, professional quality results is to have your hair highlighted at your salon, where your expertly trained stylist will use Professional quality hair products. There are many types of highlights available, the most popular ones being streaking which involves multiple, contrasting-hued highlights, and the classic front of the hairstyle highlight method. Whichever highlighting shade and method you choose, keep in mind that the health of your hair will have a direct impact on the overall appearance and quality of your results. If your hair has been severely damaged, due to environmental factors like excessive sun or humidity, or an excess of styling and home-hair coloring products, ask your stylist if an intense, moisturizing reconstruction salon treatment is right for you, before you have highlights or other color applied.

The Hair Color Lowlight Lowdown

Hair Lowlighting delivers exactly what the name implies, by darkening and deepening your color with a contrasting shade, providing a unique, striking look. As with highlighting, your lowlights can be abundant, or simply done, and the color you choose should complement, or provide contrast, to your current shade. The health of your hair is also an important consideration when deciding on the type, and frequency of your highlighting treatments, since damaged hair does not hold or absorb color as well as healthy hair normally will.

Lowlighting is a trend that many celebrities, including Courtney Cox, and Scarlett Johansson have been seen with, and is swiftly gaining as much popularity as highlighting treatments. The most important thing to remember when selecting a lowlighting shade is that colors that are dramatically darker (black lowlights on blonde hair) may not always turn out exactly as planned, which is why it is so important to have your hair coloring done professionally by a salon stylist.

Jewelry Symbols of Hope

Thursday 31 January 2008 @ 4:32 am

By definition, hope is a feeling of want or desire to get something, do something or for something to happen. For most people, this word has a very individual meaning. For instance, someone may have hope in earning a college degree, starting a family or simply finding happiness. Whatever the term means to you, it’s a wonderful way to live every day with hope in your heart. If you are looking to add this special sentiment to your jewelry collection, there are a number of symbols and/or styles that you can wear and enjoy.

Many of us love gemstones and appreciate the color that they add to our jewelry collection, but what we may not always realize is that every gem has its own special meaning. Pink Tourmaline, for instance, is the gemstone of hope. This bright, medium-pink stone is considered to be rare and is highly sought after in the world of jewelry.

When it comes to hope, many people look toward their religion for comfort. Cross jewelry, for example, can provide wearers with a great sense of hope. A prayer box, typically worn as a pendant or bracelet charm, is a small box that features a hinged lid. Many wearers enjoy placing a handwritten prayer inside, or possibly penned words of encouragement.

A dove may a small bird, but its symbolism is very significant. Many newlyweds release doves at their wedding, which can signify happiness and hope. The image of a dove in a jewelry accessory may provide the wearer with a sense of possibility or a new beginning.

To many, the symbol of an angel is reminiscent of a guardian, a protector and a symbol of hope. For those who choose to wear the image of an angel in their jewelry, they often feel comforted. As one of the most popular symbols in jewelry, the angel design is easily found in various pendant or charm styles.

If you still aren’t sure which symbol best describes your definition of hope, think of something that you wish for. If you hope for sunnier days in your future, consider jewelry with a sun motif. If you’re reaching for a goal, perhaps the image of a star would suit you well. If you are hoping for a little better luck in the coming year, perhaps the image of a clover, horseshoe, ladybug or an elephant would be your jewelry of choice.

In conclusion, the jewelry that you wear may or may not be anything more than a fashion statement. When one design goes out of style, another is sure to take its place. With so many trends on the forefront of fashion, it’s often impossible to know what’s ‘hot’ and what’s ‘not’ on any given day. When choosing the pieces that you wear, however, it’s worth noting that symbols of hope are timeless. A jewelry accessory that gives you hope or reminds you to never give up on the things that mean the most will far outlast the trends of today or tomorrow.

History And Working Of A Wristwatch

Wednesday 30 January 2008 @ 8:50 pm

A wristwatch (relogios) or a watch is a kind of a timepiece that a person wears for referring to time. Watches first came into existence in 1600s as a modification of spring powered clocks. Modern watches have a lot of other functions like that of a calendar in addition to the display of time.

Most common type of wristwatch (relogios) is worn on person`s wrist and is tightened with help of a watchband that is made up of nylon, leather, any other plastic strap, metal link or sometimes, even ceramic. Before this, watches were pocket watches which were carried separately.

Watch designed was greatly improved in the 21st Century due to technological advances in the field of metallurgy, physical vapor deposition and composite materials. Better materials are now used for making watches which are more durable, more accurate, more aesthetic and more reliable.

Escapement is a kind of mechanism that limits and controls the unwinding in the watch. It converts a simple unwinding into a periodic energy release. This is done by gear interlocking that switches among `driven` and `free` state.

Balance wheel along with the spring or Hairspring forms a harmonic oscillator. This oscillator controls the gear system motion in the watch. This is similar to a pendulum clock.

Tourbillon is a rotating type of frame used for escapement. It cancels out the effects of the bias in timekeeping using gravity. Otherwise, the watch would have to be kept in the same position for a lot of time.

Movement in a watch is the mechanism which measures the time and hence helps to display the correct current time. The movements can be mechanical, electronic and maybe, even both. Most of the watches use electronic timekeeping these days even if the face of watch has a mechanical hand.

Watches (relogios) are mostly classified on basis of their movements. The classifications are Mechanical Movements, Tuning Fork Movement, Electronic Movement and Radio controlled movement. The source of power used can be a spring. There are Self Winding springs also present. Some modern watches off the movement of the wearer, some watches run with the help of the batteries, or electronic power. Some watches are light powered, while some of them are powered by the body heat.

Time display is generally done in the form of Analog or Digital display. Analog display is done using two hands, one each for hour and minute and sometimes another hand is used to display seconds. In digital display, usually there is a LCD screen on which the time in digital format appears.

All the watches (relogios) show the time in atleast hours and minutes. Few watches also show the date, day and some of them even have alarms. Some more complicated watches have stopwatch, lunar phases, Perpetual Calendar, Minute repeater and equation of the time.

When the sales of Swiss watch makers went down, they redesigned it and produced a much cheaper version in end of 20th Century. With the help of some graphic designers, they also launched an array of Fashionable watches. Dual time watches (relogios) for international travelers were designed. Collectable or Jewelry type watches were designed which had high miniaturization and precision along with nice aesthetic look. Some of the leading companies for this kind of watches are Papet Phillipe, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Rolex. Mass production is done by companies like Omega, Tag Heurer and Breitling.

Other type of watches (relogios) include computerized multifunction watches with electronic items like Calculators, Digital Cameras, Video Games, GPS receivers, Cellular Phones ad Keydrives were embedded in the watches. Some recent watches have also been marketed as Water Resistant as they are not as much affected by water as other watches and are categorized on the basis of their water repelling capability.

Exploring the Beauty of Multi-Strand Jewelry

Wednesday 30 January 2008 @ 8:36 pm

When it comes to jewelry, layering is a popular trend that has remained in style for years. Whether it’s a necklace or multi-strand bracelet, the look of layers can provide a bold presence. If you’re in the market for multi-strand jewelry, sterling silver remains one of the most affordable options for getting a beautiful design without breaking your budget.

In terms of jewelry, the term ‘multi-strand’ can be used to describe a variety of styles. The classic definition would be one that incorporates varying lengths to give the appearance of a layered look. For instance, a multi-strand necklace could feature a 16″, 17″ and 18″ chain so as to give the illusion that three different necklaces are being worn when, in actuality, the wearer has only one. Depending on the style that you prefer, you can choose from a simple 2-3 strand necklace up to designs that feature 20 strands or more.

The ‘bib’ or ‘drape’ necklace, another popular term used to describe multi-strand jewelry, often features multiple smaller chains created to gracefully accent the neckline using a cascading combination of loops and drops. Because of the intricate styling and workmanship, these necklaces remain highly sought after and can easily be worn in a formal setting. At the same time, these popular styles can be worn casually with your favorite pair of jeans.

When choosing which type of multi-strand necklace to wear, a significant part of the deciding factors will be based on the shirt that is being worn. For instance, a turtleneck will typically require an 18″ or longer necklace. An open neckline, such as that found on a v-neck, square neck or even a button-up shirt will accommodate any length of necklace that can be comfortably worn and easily seen.

In addition to necklaces, multi-strand designs are also a popular style in bracelets. The movement of flowing chains combined with the width created by using multiple strands will provide a flattering and bold look. Depending on the weight of the piece, it may be accented with an oversized spring-ring or even a toggle clasp. These accents are designed to be especially large to provide a focal point for a bracelet or necklace. In many cases, these findings are perfect for a larger multi-strand design.

If you are in the market for multi-strand jewelry, sterling silver can provide you with an impressive look at an affordable price. Because it ranges from 2.5 to 2.7 on the scale of hardness, it is stronger than some types of gold. As you can see, sterling silver is both durable and can allow for a larger jewelry collection at a more feasible cost.

When shopping for multi-strand jewelry online, look for a retailer who specializes in your precious metal of choice for the best selection. If sterling silver is your favorite, you may even be able to find additional styles that will catch your eye. And best of all, you won’t have to spend a fortune to get an impressive jewelry collection, but it will certainly look as though you did.

Teeth Whitening Products – The Craze Continues

Wednesday 30 January 2008 @ 7:01 pm

The overwhelming craze for teeth whitening products all over the United States is set to break all previous records; estimating 10 million Americans to have spent the astronomical amount of 1.7 billion dollars on products related to tooth whitening and services in the year 2007.

But, how true is the craze for teeth whitening? Well, most of them feel that whitening of teeth can help them grab the perfect smile infectious enough to boost their personal and professional lives. It is mostly seen that whitening gray-colored teeth is more difficult than yellow colored teeth.

Mostly handled by cosmetic dentists, teeth whitening requires due precision thereby adding to its cost. However, there are also home teeth whitening kits also known as do-it-yourself kits, which are quite preferred by many who would like to incur dazzling smile at low costs.

But, before you use any of those products available for teeth whitening; like, whitening strips, brush-on gels and whitening toothpastes, etc make sure of their sensitivity towards your tooth and gums. Most of the products used as teeth whiteners use either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. These chemicals in the teeth whiteners with bleaching properties, once in contact with the tooth enamel start an oxidation reaction that breaks apart the staining compounds; bringing the sparkle back on the teeth.

There is a myth relating to teeth whiteners which made people skeptical if the peroxide (containing free radicals) present in them might cause cancer in the soft tissues of the mouth. However, recent studies have suggested that the nominal amount of peroxide is easily neutralized by saliva, almost about 10% faster than it can build up.

Catering to the huge demand for teeth whiteners in the market are innumerable companies and products for teeth whitening flooding the U.S markets. There is an array of products to choose from for whitening teeth over-the-counter or the online marketplace.

A few popular products for teeth whitening are DirectWhite Executive 4, Rembrandt Intense Stain Removal, Artic White, White Radiance, Supersmile SuperQuick Maintenance Kit, ProWhite Teeth Titanium Series, ProWhite Teeth Platinum Series, Colgate Simply White Night, TheraBrite PLUS Deluxe, Dr. George’s Dental White, and Natural White Pro Teeth Bleaching System, to name a few.

It is highly recommended that you obtain the professional consultation of a practicing cosmetic dentist, evaluate your dental history and use the product that caters to your teeth stains the best. Also, it is imperative to buy only those products for teeth whitening that adhere to ADA guidelines – that ensures the safety and effectiveness standards. Therefore, before you buy any Teeth Whitening Product, make sure that you check out for American Dental Associations (ADA) seal of acceptance on the label of the product.

What Are The Risks Of Liposuction

Wednesday 30 January 2008 @ 6:42 pm

As with any surgery, there are risks of liposuction. All surgeries, no matter how minimal we think they are, carry a certain degree of risk and this is a surgery. Depending on the degree of fat removal or the location of the fat to be removed, it can even be considered an invasive procedure and you should know what the risks are before you decide to jump under any surgeon’s knife (or laser).

Extra Surgeries

One of the risks of fat removal surgery is that it often leads to more surgery. You might even have to get more fat removal done before you can do any restorative surgery. Often, after this surgery, there is a lot of excess skin left over. This is because, while skin is elastic, it isn’t rubber-band elastic. It takes time to shrink back down to where it needs to be and even then you might have to deal with stretch marks, or other scars. Often, after fat removal surgery, you will need a skin lift or an excess skin reduction surgery. Sometimes you might need to have surgery to repair any weird bumps or odd contours that resulted as a result of the surgery. Sometimes, depending on where the surgery was located, you might even need skin grafts to cover extensive scars.

Complications

Surgeries often encounter complications. With this surgery, you are going to experience some swelling but that swelling could take months to heal and cause extra pressure on your nerves which can cause tingling or numbness in your limbs. You could develop an infection. Sometimes, if you opt for ultrasound assisted fat removal, you could get burns from the ultrasound probe, or you could even do damage to your organs. Sometimes the probing cannula can puncture intestines or other organs. With some types of fat removal surgery, fluid is injected into the body and some fluid is removed with the fat tissue. This could cause a fluid imbalance or even pulmonary edema.

Less Risky Procedure

The best method of fat removal for people who are healthy is to have the procedure done with tumescent anesthesia and as an outpatient. Trying to do too much at once (removing too much fat, for instance) can result in a complicated surgery as can doing too many types of surgery at once. Make sure you find a good doctor and make sure you take your surgery slowly. You can take your time and let yourself heal between surgeries it is the best way to minimize the risks of liposuction.

This is a surgery and, like every other kind of surgery, there are going to be risks involved. There is no such thing as a risk-free surgery, even for a tiny bit of liposuction. By reading up on this you will probably scare yourself a little bit, but you will also prepare yourself. You can read up on the risks and then ask your doctor any questions that you have about the risks of liposuction.

Groin Liposuction: What You Should Know

Wednesday 30 January 2008 @ 6:32 pm

Groin liposuction is not yet something that is available. This is actually the crease that is located where the torso meets the legs and the area that includes the genitals. In many cases this word is used as another name for genitals because in some cultures the words for genitals are forbidden. Often, when somebody talks about these muscles, they are actually talking about the muscles in their inner thighs. By itself, it is simply the fold or the hollow that is on both sides of the body where the thighs join the abdominal area.

Why This Area?

You shouldn’t remove fat from this area because the area is needed to keep your body mobile. It is not actually a muscle or an area for fat. It is simply the conjecture point of the upper body and the thigh. It is a very sensitive areas anybody who has been grabbed there, but it is not an area where fat typically resides. When people think of fat removal here, they are probably thinking of having fat removed from their buttocks or thighs.

Fat Removal on the Thighs

The inner thigh is one of the most popular areas for people to have this surgery done. By thinning the thighs, people do not have to worry about their thighs rubbing together (causing nasty friction). This surgery does not usually leave any scars, irregularities or lumpiness. During this surgery(which, in this case is actually thigh fat removal), the doctor makes a very small incision in the skin, usually near the crease of the buttocks and inserts a thin tube (cannula) into the area of fat. This tube is used to break the fat deposits up and to sculpt the thigh into the patients desired shape. The fat that isn’t wanted is removed with a very high pressured vacuum, but the rest of the skin, muscles, nerves and blood vessels are left alone.

Fat Removal of the Buttocks

Believe it or not, fat removal of the buttocks is becoming less popular because many people are starting to envy the larger buttock sizes!

In buttocks fat removal, the surgeon will make a small incision usually near or in the crease of the buttocks and inserts a cannula to break up the fat much like the fat removal of the thighs. In the buttocks, however, a few different kinds of techniques can be used, including a super wet technique in which anesthetic and adrenaline are injected into the surgery area, a tumescent technique which injects even more liquid and even the ultrasound-assisted technique, which uses sound waves to break up the fat after the liquid has been injected (the jury is still out on whether or not this method is perfectly safe).

Remember, groin liposuction is not actually fat removal in that area because it is not an actual body part, but the name given to an area where different parts of the body meet. If you are thinking of having fat removal done on this area, you are actually thinking of having it done on your inner thighs or your buttocks.

Ultrasonic Liposuction: The Debate

Wednesday 30 January 2008 @ 6:31 pm

Ultrasonic liposuction is the subject of much debate. It was first introduced into the United States in the late twentieth century and people are still working to make it one hundred percent safe. In spite of problems with equipment, there are some liposuction surgeons who are using it as a regular method of removing fat from the body. Here are the pros and cons of this kind of surgery and how it works.

How It Works:

This type of surgery works by inserting a cannula that is both an ultrasound probe and a suction probe. The cannula emits ultrasonic waves that, when used on fat cells break up those cells and turn them into liquid emulsion oil. This oil mixes with the fluids that are traditionally injected into an adipose area and are suctioned out with the suction portion of the cannula. This requires less suction than other types of adipose tissue removal. The original form of this surgery was done in two parts-first the liquefying of the fat cells and then the suction, but surgeons in the United States have been working to perfect the one step technique with the single cannula. While it is, in fact, faster than the two step technique, it is slower than the traditional methods for this surgery.

Its Benefits:

Many surgeons sing the benefits of this type of adipose tissue removal. By liquefying the fat cells, the fat is then easier to suction out. The sound waves also reduce the bleeding and tissue damage that usually accompanies it because this kind of surgery does not require any kind of mechanical removal of the fat cells. They simply melt by themselves.

Risks

There is a higher risk of nerve damage and of burning to patience because the disturbance is high energy, which causes high friction within that part of the body. The incisions are often larger than those used for other methods of this kind of plastic surgery and a sort of skin shield is required to keep the skin from being burned by the probe. The first two “generations” of equipment had many very dangerous side effects that didn’t start to show themselves until their use was widespread. These side effects included damage to other internal organs by the waves (kidneys and gallbladders have been perforated).

Other Risks Involved

Other risks of this kind of plastic surgery include blood clots due to the elevation of blood vessels temperature from exposure to the probe. Some people have had injuries to their peripheral nerves. Sensory nerves experienced longer periods of numbness in the arms, neck, face and legs. This type of fat removal also causes Seromas (a fluid filled cavity that contains serum that develops underneath the skin) that will last for weeks or even months, which will slow the recovery from the surgery.

Ultrasonic Liposuction is, absolutely, a dangerous procedure. It is also more costly than traditional forms of this surgery and, until it is perfected, it probably not worth the risk, especially when there are other proven (and cheaper) methods available that achieve the same end result.

Teeth Whitening Cost Is Worth The Results

Wednesday 30 January 2008 @ 6:30 pm

Each one of us would love to have sparkling pearl-like smile, but we all definitely like to take a second thought considering the teeth whitening cost. There are several options in the market regarding products and methods to choose from for your whitening needs; however, it is strongly recommended that you choose options only after you consult your dentist about the actual cause behind the discoloration of teeth.

The cost may vary from dentist to dentist and from product to product. However, the cost towards professional teeth whitening services will vary from $400 to $900, while the cost of laser treatment goes beyond $1000. The laser treatment is expensive because of the incorporation of comparatively higher equipment costs for ‘activation’ light or laser into the procedure.

In spite of the cost factor involved in whitening of discolored and stained teeth, there seems to be no lack of enthusiasm amongst people to try whitening methods and products. Discoloration might be due to a variety of factors from genetic reasons to smoking, wine and tobacco stains.

Just as having sparkling white teeth is important, so as is important considering the standard cost. Besides, considering the health factor which involves using good quality products, talk to your dentist about your budget. While there is no dearth of expensive products for whitening of teeth, low cost do-it-yourself home kits are also a rage among people.

These over-the-counter home kits are as effective as those done by a dentist; however, the cost incurred with a visit to the dentist is due to the professional touch of expertise implemented. If you are considering of lowering your cost, you can buy home kits which includes whitening strips, brush-on gel, tooth whitening paste, etc.

You can also innovatively lower the expenditure, if you understand the gravity of the situation and take measures accordingly. I have known a friend who chose to use home kit for lower teeth as they are less visible. Moreover, in cases where your teeth do not need a drastic makeover, you can easily attain the required brightness with home kits.

As teeth whitening cost vary accordingly based on the dentist you choose to go or the product you buy, make sure that you do your research and if necessary make due comparison of the services and results. Also since dental insurance does not typically cover the cost of the procedure; the cost increases with the number of in-office treatments required by the patient.

Ultrasonic Liposuction Fort Worth: What Is It?

Wednesday 30 January 2008 @ 6:29 pm

There are plenty of places to get ultrasonic liposuction. Fort Worth is just one of them. Everybody has something about them they wish that they could change and this is just one way in which to make that change you’ve always wanted. It is just one of the methods of fat removal surgery. It is highly controversial and is still being studied. Here is what you need to know about this surgery. Residents of this city should make sure to read this before signing up for this kind of surgery.

History

The first type of fat removal surgery was external fat removal, but internal fat removal wasn’t far behind and was first patented around the year 1987. The procedure can be performed using tumescent, wet or traditional methods. The basic principle behind the surgery is the use of a very high-pitched sound to loosen the body’s fat so that it can be taken out of the body much more quickly than it can be taken out when using other methods. In the early days of this procedure there were some equipment concerns and the devices used currently are the third set that have been developed. There might be some of the first instruments used, but beware: those instruments have been known to burn patients and kill tissue. It is incredibly dangerous so make sure you ask your doctor which “generation” of tools he is using for your procedure.

External Fat Removal Surgery

This is a procedure that was made popular near the end of the 1990s. External fat removal surgery uses a wet technique because the most recognized theory says that the ultrasound waves work the best when sent through large amounts of water. Some surgeons claim that this technique makes it easier to remove the fat calls and that it helps to ease the skin’s retraction. Unfortunately, there aren’t any studies that can prove these “easier” claims.

Internal Fat Removal

Internal fat removal surgery is very expensive because the equipment costs a lot of money to use and the practice was first used on humans in Latin America and Europe. It works in much the same way as the external fat removal procedure but the internal procedures are far from being perfected. There are problems with the equipment which has not yet been proven safe. In fact, it was only invented to give plastic surgeons an edge when trying to keep their patients from seeking expert internists. There is little to no monitoring of the equipment’s evolvement by the FDA and there have been considerable problems in patients whose doctors use older forms of the equipment-equipment that has proven to be unsafe for use on humans.

If you are trying to find ultrasonic liposuction Fort Worth, you might want to keep doing your research. There are other, less invasive and less dangerous forms of fat removal available. This type of fat removal surgery poses too many concerns to be seriously considered at this time.
