In the world of fashion laptop bags, there are competing ideas: either you carry your laptop and all of the other stuff you need, like PDA, phone, camera, etc.; or you travel light with just your laptop and the essential accessories. Most high cool laptop bags fall into the second category, with just 2 or 3 large, roomy pockets to hold the basics, and that is about all.
When shopping for a laptop case, be sure to check the size you need. Most bags fall in the range of holding a 15″ to 17″ laptop or notebook easily. You may have a problem finding a bag that will hold your little paperback-sized notebook, or your wide-body model multimedia laptop.
Get a case that will hold the computer snugly, yet provide ample room for extras. You don’t want the laptop bouncing around inside the case, breaking your mouse or cracking your CD’s. You also want to examine the handles, corners and zippers or clasps on the bags for durability. Look for sturdy, suitcase-quality handles and heavy duty zippers like you would find on soft-sided luggage. Don’t skimp on a bag just to have a handle fly off and send your precious device to the floor.
Many of the bags available cost more than the laptops they will carry! Alligator leather, butter-soft suede, and top-grain cowhide bags are as beautiful as any designer overnight tote or case, and carry you laptop in style, for a professional and ‘put together’ look. And those colors! You have a huge selection, but tailor your choices to your business. If you are an art designer, a cool aqua bag might be a good choice, but not so for an auditor!
Find a bag that won’t have you dragging and lugging your shoulder to the floor! You’ve spent too much on clothes and shoes to have your laptop bag pulling your posture over to one side and ruining your look. Remember, you don’t have to carry a big, ugly bag like a man. Finish off your look with an attractive, feminine laptop case.
One other tip to lighten up your load: if you have your files organized on your laptop, do you really need that 3″ stack of paperwork sticking out of the top of your $200 designer laptop bag? Learn to work from the keyboard, not from your papers, that is what you bought your computer for!
If you are traveling, consider a larger bag for those occasions. When you are playing road warrior, you’ll need more stuff with you; like cords, network cables and maybe even an extra battery.
